Pat Cummins was poached by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a massive 20.50 crores as the World Cup-winning skipper will pack his bag and move to Hyderabad after representing Kolkata Knight Riders for a few seasons. The Sunrisers Hyderabad was in a humongous bidding war against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the race to get Pat Cummins. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired his services making Cummins the second-most expensive buy in IPL’s history.

Pat Cummins led Australia to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 title after which it was already speculated that he will bag a huge amount in the Auction. Cummins has a good record in the IPL both with the bat and ball. He is also great captaincy material and could be seen leading the side in the near future. Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad is led by Aiden Markram and he has been retained by the franchise as the skipper.

Pat Cummins expressed his delight after getting picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad saying that he has always loved playing in Hyderabad. He was happy being united with his Australian teammate Travis Head who was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 6.80 crores. Travis Head was the Player of the Match in the finals of the ODI World Cup 2023.

On joining Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins said, “Pumped to be joining SRH for the upcoming IPL season. Felt a lot about the Orange Army, and have played at Hyderabad a few times and it’s always lovely. Can’t wait to get started. Great to see another Aussie Travis Head over there as well. I think we’re gonna have a lot of fun this season and hopefully plenty of success.”

Pat Cummins became the second most expensive purchase in the history of IPL. His record was broken later on in the auction by his Australian teammate Mitchell Starc who bagged 24.75 crores from Kolkata Knight Riders becoming the most expensive purchase in the history of IPL. Australian players have attracted a lot of bidders in the IPL 2024 because of their terrific World Cup campaign.

Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc became the two most expensive buys in the IPL but their partner Josh Hazlewood went unsold because he would not be able to play for the full season as he is expecting the birth of his first child. Pat Cummins had a decent World Cup campaign with the ball but his leadership led the team to a record-extending sixth World Cup title.

It will be interesting to see Pat Cummins play for the Orange Army as the Hyderabad-based franchise was looking for an overseas bowler given Marco Jansen has not shown a lot of form in recent seasons. Pat Cummins can also be a prospect for future leadership roles given his performance as a captain in the World Cup. He is ready to lead a side like Sunrisers Hyderabad and can also lead them to IPL glory.
