Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has found themselves in a massive controversy over the NOCs of Shakib Al Hasan for the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League and Mustafizur Rahman for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Their hypocritical call has raised many questions about their decision.
Mustafizur Rahman, who has been a vital cog for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been granted NOC by the Bangladesh Cricket Board to play in the league till 1st May. This is because the governing body wants the pacer to be available for the series against Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh will be hosting Zimbabwe in the five-match T20I and the BCB wants a fast bowler to be fit for the series as well as the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played in the USA and the Caribbean in the month of June, just after the Indian Premier League concludes.
While Bangladesh Cricket Board made it clear that all the players should be available for the national duty. In a shocking turn of events, they granted the NOC to Shakib Al Hasan to play in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League for the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Shakib Al Hasan will be missing the first three T20Is against Zimbabwe, which will be played in Chattogram. The all-rounder then will be available for the last two games of the series. Director of Bangladesh Cricket Board Jalal Yunus also talked about the same and said that they will confirm the development after discussions.
"Based on what I have heard, Shakib Al Hasan may not play with Zimbabwe in the Chattogram phase, as he will be playing in the Super League. We will confirm the details following our discussion," he said as quoted by CricFrenzy.
How is it good for Mustafiz to play in the IPL? - Jalal Yunus on Mustafizur Rahman playing in League
Recently Jalal Yunus talked about Mustafizur Rahman not getting NOC after 1st May to play in the IPL. He claimed that the fast bowler has nothing to learn from IPL and added that they are worried about the fast bowler's fitness. He had stated:
"How is it good for Mustafiz to play in the IPL? He has nothing to learn from the IPL. His learning process is over. In fact, the IPL players can learn from Mustafiz. It won't benefit Bangladesh. You know the IPL is a game of four overs but there's a lot of stress. They sometimes have to take a late flight after the match, which is difficult. We are worried about Mustafiz's health and fitness. They [CSK] will want to get 100% out of him, without thinking about his fitness."
Jalal Yunus further claimed that joining Bangladesh will allow Mustafizur Rahman to manage his workload and get used to conditions as the T20 World Cup 2024 is around the corner. He added:
"Mustafiz's return from IPL doesn't mean he will play against Zimbabwe. We will manage his workload. He will travel with the team, which will help his understanding with the players. He also has to adjust to conditions in the US, when we play three T20Is there in May. He has to be fit before the World Cup. He won't be able to deliver if he is exhausted. We need a fresh Mustafiz. We don't want an exhausted Mustafiz," he concluded.
