Delhi Capitals will aim to clinch their first-ever IPL trophy in IPL 2024. Despite being a powerful team at the start who reached the semis in the first two seasons, DC has failed to taste the title victory for the last 15 seasons. In the 2020 season, DC ended as runners-up and it was their best-ever show in IPL history.

With the return of Rishabh Pant in IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals is likely to witness a better show than the last season. The 2019 runners-up ended in the 9th spot in the points table last season. Out of 14 games, the team could only win 5 matches. They were far away from the playoffs race.

Due to the team’s poor show, the DC franchise has released many players from their squad ahead of IPL 2024. A total of 11 players have been dropped from the squad including popular names like Manish Pandey, Mustafizur Rahman, Phil Salt, Rilee Rossouw, and Rovman Powell.

Among the retained ones, only big international players and those who performed well in the last edition have been retained. Players like David Warner, Kuldeep Yadav, Mitchell Marsh, Mukesh Kumar, Anrich Nortje, and Axar Patel are some of the popular retained players.

Prithvi Shaw is an exception in this matter, as he has been retained despite his miserable show in the last season. DC’s long list of released players reveals that the franchise is looking for massive changes in their squad. They have 9 spots available for the IPL 2024 auction and about Rs. 29 crores in salary purse.

DC Captain and Vice-captain For IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant will be back to lead Delhi Capitals in the next edition. He missed the last season due to injury from an accident. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman is all set to lead the team in the next season.

David Warner, who led the team in the absence of Pant, is expected to be the vice-captain of the side. However, due to DC’s poor show last season, the team might also look for players like Axar Patel as vice-captain.
