IPL 2024: Kieron Pollard Posts Cryptic 'Loyalty' Story On Instagram; Fans Feel All-rounder Targeted Mumbai Indians

Former Mumbai Indians (MI) player Kieron Pollard shared a cryptic story on his Instagram and people are connecting it to Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai-based franchise triggered a lot of fans after they announced Hardik Pandya as their new skipper for the season removing Rohit Sharma from the role. Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful captains in the history of IPL. He has won five IPL titles with MI as a skipper.

Kieron Pollard was Mumbai Indians’ hero in the 2013 and 2019 finals and has won a lot of matches for MI after the team found them in a difficult situation. He announced his retirement from IPL after the 2022 season. However, he was still a member of the Mumbai Indians in the capacity of a batting coach. Ahead of the 2024 season, Mumbai Indians announced Mark Boucher as the head coach for IPL 2024.

Suraykumar Yadav also shared a broken heart emoji on his story just a few hours after Hardik was announced as the captain of the Mumbai-based franchise. Suryakumar Yadav was the deputy to Rohit Sharma in the 2023 season and also led the team in a match against KKR which was won by MI. It was devastating for both Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav because the franchise did not even consider them before announcing Hardik Pandya as the skipper.

Now Kieron Pollard, who has been loyal to his service towards Mumbai Indians has shared a cryptic story on Instagram talking about Loyalty and Money. His story reads, “Once the rain is over, an umbrella becomes a burden to everyone. That’s how loyalty ends when benefits stop.”

Kieron Pollard was also unhappy with Mumbai Indians’ decision to insist him on taking up the role of batting coach as he wanted to play in the 2023 season. He was playing for MI’s ILT20 Team MI Emirates and was leading the team and all of a sudden he was asked to take up a coaching role in the IPL. Just after the IPL was over he played for MI New York in the Major League Cricket. Most recently, he has been announced to lead the MI Cape Town in the upcoming SA20 league.

This decision of Mumbai Indians playing him in every other league except IPL is something that could not be appreciated by anyone. It looks like some kind of internal partiality against Kieron Pollard where he is being compensated for an IPL playing contract by getting to play as a captain in every other league for the same franchise.

Mumbai Indians have won five IPL titles, all under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. When he took over the team from Ricky Ponting in 2013, he was just 25 years old and he led his franchise to its first title in 2013. He then went on to win the titles in 2015,2017,2019 and 2020. It was quite disrespectful of Mumbai Indians to not even give Rohit Sharma a proper call before making a huge decision like this.
