Young all-rounder Riyan Parag talked opened up about the hate he receives from the people. He said that he has stopped thinking about what they say as whatever he will do there will be still fingers pointing at him.
Riyan Parag is rated as one of the most talented all-rounders in Indian cricket. He has been doing well in the domestic circuit and has been part of the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the last few years.
But Riyan Parag is failing to replicate his domestic performances in the IPL as he hasn’t lived up to the expectations and has been the biggest disappointment for the team with the bat. But despite that, he tries to keep himself jolly as he entertains fans with dance after taking the catch and has proved his worth with the ball many times.
His poor performances in the league have seen him receiving a lot of flake. Riyan Parag’s antics including his send-off to players, and his attitude towards the opposition have been one of the prime reasons behind him being at the receiving end of trolls.
Riyan Parag highlighted that people have problems with him in every aspect and pointed out that tomorrow if he will fail in some match they will again troll him. He remarked that people can digest that he’s playing at a high level. Speaking to Indian Express, he explained:
“People have a problem with me chewing gum. If my collar is up that’s a problem. I celebrate after taking a catch that’s a problem. They have a problem with me gaming and playing golf in my off time. I have an idea why people hate me. There is a rulebook about how you should play cricket. The T-shirt should be tucked in, the collar should be down, give respect to everyone, don’t sledge anyone, and I am completely the opposite.”
“I had a decent Deodhar Trophy, and now people are saying what a talent. Tomorrow I will fail in one game and people are going to talk s**t about me. There is no point giving a thought to those faceless trolls. No one has come down to me and told me their exact problem with me. I started playing cricket because it is fun and I am still playing cricket for the fun part. People can’t digest that I am playing on such a big level, and I am enjoying it. People think I am not grateful.”
I do not care about what people say on social media – Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag further went on to say that he has told his mother to stop using social media before adding that he doesn’t care about what people say about him on social media. He added:
“I have stopped thinking about all this. No matter what you do, people are going to have a problem with me. My only advice to her is this is going to happen regardless of whether I do well or bad. I have told her to stay off Instagram and Facebook. They do go through trauma but I don’t think anyone cares about it.
I am the kind of guy who likes to share his opinion, enjoy my cricket and I am not going to change. I have been clear that I do not care about what people say on social media.”
Riyan Parag had a staggering outing in Deodhar Trophy 2023. He ended the tournament as the leading run-getter in the tournament with 354 runs in five games to go with two centuries and a valiant 95 in the final against South Zone. He contributed equally well with the ball as well as he bagged 11 wickets and was also adjudged the player of the tournament.
