In what has been the latest development as per the reports in RevSportz, it is learned that Shubman Gill will be the new captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT). The batter is expected to lead the team in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
This comes after Hardik Pandya reportedly was traded to Mumbai Indians on Sunday (26th November). The saga around the all-rounder kept many on their toes. He was the first name on the list of retained players by Gujarat Titans. However, a few hours later it was confirmed that he moved to five-time champions.
Hardik Pandya moving to Mumbai Indians means Gujarat Titans will be without a captain now. It’ll be a headache for management now to find an all-rounder as well as the skipper. However, the reports have suggested that Shubman Gill is the front-runner to captain the team.
Shubman Gill has been part of the franchise since 2022 and has been their best batter. He has the most runs for the team in the IPL and has been the backbone of the team for the last two years. The opening batter will be a good choice as he’s young and him being the leading batter might bring out the best out of him.
Earlier there were some reports that Kane Williamson might take over the charge but management is keen to have Indian players as a leader. It’s fair to say that there will be no better candidate than Shubman Gill to captain the team. The batter himself would be eager to take the role and show his leadership skills as well.
