IPL 2024 Start Date Revealed, Tournament To Witness Games Inside India Amid General Elections- Report

With the start of 2024, the excitement for IPL 2024 has begun. With the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the queue after IPL 2024, the tournament has become more thrilling to watch out for. Recently, the IPL 2024 auction took place last month.

More than 300 players went under the hammer during the IPL auction. A total of 72 players found spots across different franchises, who shelled out more than Rs. 230 crores on them. Mitchell Starc also broke the previous record of IPL auctions by getting a deal worth Rs. 24.50 crores by KKR.

IPL 2024 To Begin On March 22- Reports

While many fans are eager to know when the IPL 2024 will kick off this year, a report by Dainik Jagran states that the tournament opener will be played on March 22. Like last season, IPL 2024 will witness a battle among 10 teams.

Hence, about 76 games will take place during the event. The addition of 10 teams has increased the tenure of the tournament to 60 days from the earlier 45. Notably, the tournament commenced on March 31 last year. However, this time, the IPL 2024 needs to commence soon due to ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will kickstart on June 1. Hence, Indian players will need rest and enough gap to prepare for the tournament, which will be played in West Indies and United States. Hence, the season might start a week early this season. Also, the workload of players has to be managed during IPL.

IPL 2024 Games To Take Place Inside India Despite General Elections

The report by Dainik Jagran also reveals that the IPL 2024 matches will be hosted inside the country despite the general elections. General elections are scheduled to take place in March- April this year. In the past, IPL tournaments were scheduled outside the country during the time of elections due to security reasons.

However, BCCI has planned to conduct IPL 2024 in India amid the elections. BCCI is also waiting for election dates from the Indian Government so that they can finalize the dates and venues of IPL 2024 games.

IPL Auction 2024 Led To Big Changes

Meanwhile, the IPL 2024 auction last month has led to big changes in some franchises. Notably, the biggest shock was Hardik Pandya’s transfer to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans.

Later, MI astonished fans by promoting Pandya as the skipper and removing Rohit Sharma from the post. The move fired back as many fans unfollowed MI franchise on social media and there was an uproar over snubbing Sharma as MI skipper.

Among the good news, India’s ace wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant will be back on the field during IPL 2024 and will lead Delhi Capitals franchise once again. Pant missed the entire action last year after his car accident in December 2022.

Notably, many players will eye a spot in T20 World Cup squad with their good show in IPL 2024. Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions of the tournament. They will be led by MS Dhoni for one more time in the 2024 season.
