The ongoing IPL 2025 is all set to resume on Saturday, May 17, after a one-week suspension due to India-Pakistan conflicts. After the ceasefire agreement between the two neighboring nations, BCCI announced the restart of the IPL 2025.

Earlier, this season was scheduled to finish on May 25, but now the tournament will run till June 3 with some changes in the schedule. There is uncertainty over the venues for the IPL 2025 playoffs. As per the revised schedule, playoffs are set to be played on May 29, 30, and June 1, and the final on June 3.

The league matches will be played in six venues in Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. While the timings of the games will remain unchanged, there are no matches scheduled in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Dharamshala, and Chandigarh.

However, the BCCI has not yet announced the venues for the Qualifiers, Eliminator, and Final, but there are speculations that Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Kolkata can be the venues for the playoffs. The BCCI is not announcing the venues due to weather concerns.

Hyderabad, Kolkata likely to miss out on hosting playoffs

Meanwhile, a Hindustan Times journalist revealed that the IPL 2025 playoffs are expected to be relocated from Hyderabad and Kolkata to Mumbai and Ahmedabad due to growing concerns over the playing conditions and weather.

Hyderabad’s pitches have come under scrutiny for being excessively worn out, which is reportedly forcing the IPL to reconsider their decision to host crucial knockout matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. On the other hand, persistent rain threats in Kolkata have sparked fears of potential disruptions during the playoffs.

Ahmedabad and Wankhede are favorites to host IPL 2025 Playoffs

Given those issues, Mumbai and Ahmedabad are now emerging as the frontrunners to host the playoffs, thanks to their strong infrastructure, more reliable conditions, and easy logistics. Even a report in Cricbuzz claimed that Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium has been selected to host Qualifier 2 and the Final on June 1 and June 3, respectively.

Mumbai is still in the running to host the first two IPL 2025 playoff games, but everything depends on when the monsoon arrives. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is expected to host at least one playoff match. The BCCI has reportedly informed Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials “to be ready for at least one, possibly for the first two playoff games.”

Mumbai’s central location makes it easy to move broadcast equipment, which has been at Wankhede Stadium since the May 6 match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. The equipment is still there, making Mumbai a convenient choice for hosting playoff games.

The BCCI will soon take the final call over the playoff venues, but preparations are already underway in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. If rain continues to be a concern, the board might look north, with places like Delhi, Jaipur, or Lucknow emerging as backup options for the playoff matches.
