The IPL 2025 mega auction will be possibly held in London and possibly in November later this year. The exact date for the mega auction will be revealed later.

All the IPL franchises are already down to planning and plotting for the mega auction. A few big changes are expected to be made in the IPL about which the announcements are expected to be made after the auction.

Speaking about the IPL 2025 mega auction, in the meeting held between the IPL franchise owners and the BCCI on July 31, several team owners expressed their disinterest in the mega auctions. However, they were in favor of mini auctions ahead of every IPL season.

Teams, particularly against the mega auction, were Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. They said that the mega auction disrupts the squad that the franchise owners prepare for four to five years which in turn affects the consistency of the team.

Both were against the mega auction especially because they were not very keen on releasing their matchwinners.

The main topics discussed at the meeting were retentions, mega auctions, and the salary cap of players. SRH owner Kavya Maran was the first to speak out against the mega auctions and she was backed up by the KKR franchise owners.

"It takes a lot of time to build a squad and as discussed it also takes quite a bit of time and investment for the younger players to mature. It has taken Abhishek Sharma three years to become consistent with his performances. You would agree that there are many such examples in other teams too" she said.

The other two major topics of discussion were the participation of overseas players and the Impact Player rule. SRH owner Kavya Maran also requested the BCCI to ban overseas players for two years who enroll themselves at the auction and later pull out of the respective IPL season.

Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal objected against too many retentions and also against the use of the Impact Player rule as he thought that it limits the opportunities of the all-rounders in general and especially the Indian all-rounders to showcase their skills.

"I was surprised that there was a debate on whether to hold the big auction. Some people said that there should not be a mega auction at all. There should be only smaller auctions. I'm not in that camp."

"I feel that it evens the playing field and it's very good for everyone. It makes the IPL what it is. It makes it competitive. It makes it an even playing field. What we are learning is that team owners don't want the auction. It's just a few owners" Parth Jindal said on mega auctions.

The BCCI came out with a statement after the meeting was held saying that they will review all the suggestions put forward by the franchises and come out with a response by the end of August.

"The franchise owners tabled feedback on player regulations and other commercial aspects, including central merchandising, licensing, and gaming. The BCCI will now take these recommendations to the IPL Governing Council for further deliberation and evaluation before formulating the IPL player regulations," Shah said in the release.
