IPL 2025: Paras Mhambrey confirmed as Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach in a colossal move

Mumbai Indians (MI) have made another massive addition to their coaching setup ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The franchise has roped in former India National Cricket Team bowling coach Paras Mhambrey in their support staff ahead of the mega auction of the league.

Paras Mhambrey will be working with Lasith Malinga, who will also be the bowling coach of the team. The duo will work under the head coach Mahela Jayawardene.

Mhambrey was part of the Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff, which guided the India National Cricket Team to the T20 World Cup 2024. He played an instrumental role in the success of the Indian team during his tenure as he worked closely with the bowlers and helped them improve their skills.

This will be the second time in his career that Mhabrey will be part of the Mumbai Indians coaching setup. He was part of the team earlier, and in his first stint as the bowling coach, he enjoyed great success.

Mhambrey was part of the Mumbai Indians, which won the IPL 2013, Champions League T20 (2011, 2013). Under him, the franchise also finished as runners-up in 2010 and also had two more playoff appearances in the Indian Premier League.

Releasing the official statement, the franchise stated:

"Mumbai Indians, today, announced the return and appointment of Paras Mhambrey as Bowling Coach, who will work along with current Bowling Coach Lasith Malinga as part of the coaching team under head coach Mahela Jayewardene. Paras Mhambrey was part of the Mumbai Indians coaching team previously, a run which included MI winning the IPL and the Champions League T20."

Paras Mhambrey has been one of the best bowling coaches going around in Indian cricket. His experience as a coach, along with his cricketing mind, will be a massive boost for the Mumbai Indians, who generally are known for shaping up youngsters and making them superstars at the international level.

Paras Mhambrey enjoyed a fruitful stint with the India National Cricket Team. Under him, the team finished as runners-up in the ICC World Cup in 2023 and the ICC World Test Championship in 2023. They were semi-finalists in T20 World 2022 and also drew Test series in South Africa. Apart from this they also won Asia Cup 2023.

Mahela Jayawardene replaces Mark Boucher as the head coach of Mumbai Indians

A few days ago, Mahela Jayawardene replaced Mark Boucher as the head coach of the team. This will also be the second stint for former Sri Lanka National Cricket Team player as the head coach of Mumbai Indians. Earlier, he joined the team in 2017 and guided them to three titles.

With the new coaching staff, Mumbai Indians would be eyeing their 6th title. Since 2020, they haven't won a single title in the league and would want to end the lean phase. It remains to be seen who they will retain and acquire in the auction.
