Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik feels that the IPL 2025 mega auction will be the most exciting ever in the history of the Indian Premier League. Dinesh Karthik lauded the IPL governing council for the new rules and claims that they have been made keeping both the stakeholders and the players in mind.

The IPL governing council had a meeting a few days ago and finally announced the rules for the next auction. They have brought several changes to the previous rules which include the no. of retentions and the new RTM rule.

According to the latest rules, a total of six retentions will be allowed with one of them being the uncapped player. No franchise will be able to retain more than two uncapped players.

Dinesh Karthik speaks on the new retention rule of IPL

While speaking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik praised the IPL governing council for setting up an even platform for all the teams. He also explained the rules further and claimed that the rules would be beneficial when they came.

"I love the new rules because it creates an even platform for all teams to pick their best teams. The fact that the first three players go at a certain price but then for the fourth and fifth players, again the price is high.

"So whichever player you are looking to hold on to, is a quality player and then you are playing for the premium of that player. When the rules will come out, you will see it's a very good set of rules they have come up with," Dinesh Karthik said.

Dinesh Karthik on the introduction of match fees in IPL

Another great rule change this year was the introduction of match fees. The players are going to receive a total of INR 7.5 lakh per match as their match fees apart from the amount in the contract.

Dinesh Karthik reckons that this rule is a good incentive for the players and it will give them the motivation to perform more and will give them the right worth of their performances.

"Add to the fact the players are going to get a match fee as well which is a very good incentive at the end of the day At the end of the day, whatever shows we create, whatever we are doing, it's a byproduct of what the players do on the field as you can give them as much as they want.

"I am sure these rules are made keeping both the stakeholders and the players in mind and I hope the general public appreciates what BCCI has done because to bring out such rules is not easy it takes a lot of back-and-forth," the former wicketkeeper said.

Dinesh Karthik speaks on new RTM rule

Adding to this, the IPL has made a significant change in the RTM rule as well. The new RTM rule states that the highest bidder in the auction for a player will be given an additional opportunity to raise their bid before the RTM is used by the team that held the right for the player.

Dinesh Karthik feels that this is going to be the most exciting auction because of the change in the Right to Match rule which will give the players a fair chance to have their worth.

"I feel it's going to be the most exciting auction ever because apart from the normal bidding process which is very interesting to watch, add to the fact that if somebody has bid for the player and the team that he has played for in the previous cycle, they go on to use the RTM, there is still a chance for a team that has bid for him to put up a price.

"If they are not happy with it, they can let go or if they are happy, you end up giving it to the team that held him in the previous cycle. Again a well-thought-out rule. You are giving both teams a fair chance but most importantly, (it gives) the players the right value which you always want to achieve and that's where again, the IPL governing council has done a very good job," the former RCB wicketkeeper said.

According to the reports, the franchises are not happy with the new RTM rule and have already written to the BCCI. The franchises feel that the new IPL rule does not allow for the real aim of the RTM rule.

IPL teams need to submit the list of retained players by October 31, 2024. The dates for the mega auction have not been out yet. IPL 2025 mega auction guarantees to be full of surprises as the teams prepare to make a solid squad for the upcoming seasons.
