IPL 2025: Record-breaking bids await Rishabh Pant as RCB, KKR, LSG, PBKS target him for captaincy

The upcoming IPL 2025 Mega Auction promises to be an extraordinary event, setting the stage for an auction unlike any seen before, and all eyes will be on the Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who is all set to part ways with the Delhi Capitals (DC).

It is being said that Delhi Capitals (DC) is not interested in retaining Pant as the captain for the IPL 2025, and if that happens, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter would put him under the hammer at the mega auction next month in November.

Apart from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are also reportedly interested in signing Pant, as they are also looking for fresh leadership ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025.

The media reports claimed that KKR and RCB won’t retain Faf du Plessis and Shreyas Iyer as their captains, and even the defending champions will let the Indian batter go into the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. On the other hand, the LSG is also reportedly releasing their captain, KL Rahul.

PBKS is also in search of a new captain, as Shikhar Dhawan retired from the game. Recently, the PBKS signed Ricky Ponting, former DC coach, as their new head coach, so Rishabh Pant is automatically on their radar for captaincy. Ponting and Pant’s relationship could seal a deal for PBKS.

Now, a Times of India reporter claimed that the RCB, KKR, LSG, and PBKS are running behind Rishabh Pant, and he will be available to pick and could attract bids in the range of INR 20–22 crores at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. He also claimed that the RCB is ready to spend any amount for Pant, but several other franchises are also expected to join the chase.

Pant’s charisma and appeal make him a coveted player, and his presence in the mega auction could ignite fierce competition among teams vying to bring him on board, as he will not only bring his leadership to the table but also his wicketkeeping skills. And his batting prowess doesn’t need an introduction.

A Times of India reporter Sahil Malhotra said in a viral video: “Rishabh Pant is very likely to enter the IPL Mega Auction, and he is going to sell for INR 20–22 crores. Not just the RCB... The RCB is ready to spend any amount for Pant. Don't rule out Punjab Kings, don't rule out KKR, and don't rule out LSG. There are multiple franchises who will be gunning for him. Because he's a very likable character.”
