With the India-Pakistan war escalating and triggering serious safety concerns, the ongoing IPL 2025 is on the brink of suspension. Explosions near the border, drone and missile attacks, as well as the blackouts, have already forced one IPL 2025 match in Dharamsala to be called off.
After the cancellation of the Punjab Kings versus Delhi Capitals clash in Dharamshala on May 8, pressure mounts on the BCCI as the overseas players are reportedly unwilling to stay in India for the tournament due to security concerns amid the cross-border tensions.
IPL 2025 could shift to the August-September window amid border tensions
This situation could lead to India’s cricket calendar turning upside down to save the rest of the IPL 2025 season.
As reported by the Times of India, if the ongoing IPL 2025 is officially suspended due to the ongoing India-Pakistan war, the BCCI may shift the tournament to the window set for India’s tour of Bangladesh and the Asia Cup 2025 in August-September.
A Times of India journalist posted, X: “If the IPL suspension becomes official soon, the window of the India tour of Bangladesh and Asia Cup could be used to complete the tournament.”

Emergency evacuation at HPCA Stadium
Speaking about the whole incident, the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals took a shocking turn when it was suddenly interrupted due to security concerns. It was expected to be a regular league match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, but the situation turned into an emergency evacuation after reports of drone incursions within a 100-kilometer radius.
The disruption began when floodlights started switching on one by one in Dharamshala. Initially, fans and media assumed it was a power outage, but as news of drone strikes in nearby regions like Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot spread, the severity of the situation became clear.
With tension rising, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal was seen assisting in the evacuation, ensuring the safety of players, staff, and fans. Despite the panic, the evacuation was carried out calmly and swiftly, with spectators showing discipline as they left the HPCA Stadium. The players were escorted to safety, and shortly after, the IPL 2025 match was officially called off.
IPL 2025 suspended indefinitely amid rising India-Pakistan tensions
On the other hand, the ongoing IPL 2025 has been suspended indefinitely following the intensifying war between India and Pakistan.
The suspension comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of players, staff, and spectators, given the worsening situation between India and Pakistan.
A BCCI official confirmed to PTI, “It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war.”
