Amid escalating tensions between neighboring countries India and Pakistan, the ongoing IPL 2025 was temporarily suspended. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to release an official statement regarding the future of the marquee T20 tournament.

The match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala was called off on Thursday, after Pakistan launched missile and drone strikes on Indian cities late that night. Notably, the match was called off due to a "technical failure," but the reason was the security concerns amid fears of an attack.

Two weeks after the deadly terror strike in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, India responded by launching missile strikes on terror hubs located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Multiple regions including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh were placed under a blackout on Thursday evening. This move followed air raid sirens and reports of explosion-like sounds emerging from Jammu, raising widespread alarm.

BCCI Prioritising Player Safety Over IPL 2025

Sports Now reported that the safety of players is the top priority. The report added that while rescheduling the Indian Premier League might be considered later, the focus is on showing solidarity with the country during the current crisis.

"We want to be seen standing with the nation. Our priority is the nation. Safety of players paramount. Cricket not above the nation," a source told Sports Now on condition of anonymity.

"We will see if there is another window but priority is standing with the nation," the source added.

A total of 58 matches have been played in the season, including the recent match. 12 group stage matches are slated to take place in cities like Lucknow (2 matches), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai, and Jaipur. The playoff stage is set to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata.

IPL 2025 Match Called Off in Dharamsala Following Air Attacks Near Border

The clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at Dharamsala was called off on Thursday following air raid alerts in nearby Jammu and Pathankot. The alerts came amid heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan, casting doubt over the continuation of the tournament.

The match had already seen a delayed start due to rain and was stopped during the 11th over after a sudden floodlight failure. At first, the blackout was attributed to a technical issue, but it soon became clear that the decision to halt play was influenced by serious security concerns.

At the time of interruption, Punjab was in a strong position at 122 for 1. Opener Priyansh Arya had hammered 70 off 34 balls before being dismissed by T Natarajan, while Prabhsimran Singh remained unbeaten on 50.

With the situation escalating, players and support staff were quickly escorted out, and the nearly 80% full crowd at the 23,000-capacity stadium was safely evacuated.
