One of the few IPL teams that have been a part of IPL since the first season, Delhi Capitals would hope to put on a more consistent performance this season after losing their way in the second half last year.

Delhi Capitals have had an IPL journey that can be termed as a mixed bag, as the team started well by qualifying for the knockouts in the first two seasons, which was followed by a string of below-par performances till 2018, barring the fifth season.

The strong core that DC had built from 2019-2021 was dismantled after the 2022 auction, and the team is in search of its best combination since then.

2008-2013

Delhi Deardevils, as the Delhi Capitals were known back then, was a force to reckon with, with the presence of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, AB de Villiers, and Tilakaratne Dilshan.

The team did make good use of the above-mentioned names by making it to the top four in the first two seasons and missed it by losing the momentum at the backend of the tournament in 2010.

2014-2019

The good days were soon over as the team finished in the second half of the points table in seven of the next eight seasons.

One of the reasons for a lackluster performance over a long period was the frequent change in personnel.

However, a change in name brought luck with it, and the team finished in the top two after the league stage in 2019 and was able to maintain the good run by making it to the final against MI in 2020.

2020-2025

The change in management made a big difference to DC's fortunes as Ricky Ponting, who was appointed as the head coach in 2018, along with Shreyas Iyer, who was handed the captaincy mid-season in 2018, backed the strong Indian core that the team had.

Delhi Capitals were able to put on a strong performance in the 2021 IPL edition as well, by finishing third after losing to Chennai Super Kings in the second qualifier.

But as has been the case in eighteen seasons, things changed after the 20022 IPL auctions as DC decided to release Shreyas Iyer with Rishabh Pant replacing him as the captain, who was also released last year.

Players Retained by Delhi Capitals

DC retained senior Indian players like Axar Patel, who led the team last season, and KL Rahul, along with young batters like Abishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs.
