Past Performances and IPL Titles of Royal Challengers Bengaluru
The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, have been a part of the IPL since the first season of the league and have given some noteworthy performances during this time period, with the most recent one ending the trophy drought.
2008-2013
RCB is the team that kicked off IPL when it took on KKR in the very first match in the history of the league and faced a batter named Brendon McCullum, who scored the then-highest individual score in IPL, 158.
Having said that, Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a strong comeback the next season, held in South Africa, and made it to the final of the tournament, only to lose against the eventual champions, Deccan Chargers, while chasing a small total.
The runners-up of the last edition were able to maintain their good run in the third season as well by finishing in the top four and reaching the knockout stage of the tournament.
Come 2011, RCB under the leadership of former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori made it to the final for the second time in four seasons but failed to cross the line yet again against Chennai Super Kings.
The next couple of years were below par for the then Virat Kohli-led side as it failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing fifth in back-to-back editions.
2014-2019
The story kept repeating itself till 2014, and it took a special effort from the captain himself to help the team book a spot in the playoffs the following year, courtesy of a brain-fade moment from David Warner in a shortened must-win encounter against SRH.
As far as the 2016 season of the IPL is concerned, it was pretty much one man show for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as Virat Kohli, who was on another level as a player, scoring more than 900 runs, 973 to be precise, and took his team into the final.
Although RCB fell agonizingly short of its maiden IPL title, Kohli made that particular season, which is still talked about among the masses, his own due to the way he batted.
Having said that, the next three seasons were forgettable for the Royal Challengers as they were quite inconsistent with their performances.
2020-2025
The scenario has been quite different since 2020, as RCB has become quite consistent with its performances, which is evident from the fact that the team has qualified for the playoffs in five of the last six IPL editions.
The Rajat Patidar will go into the upcoming season as the defending champions, having defeated the Punjab Kings in the final last year to win their first title.
Players Retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Royal Challengers Bengaluru retained a total of 17 players for IPL 2026, including former captain Virat Kohli, experienced fast bowler Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, and title-winning captain Rajat Patidar.
