Team India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is on the radar of multiple franchises ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) mini-auction. Indian wicketkeeper-batters are not easy to find, and several franchises have reportedly expressed interest in securing the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) player.
According to a report by The Times of India, the Mumbai Indians (MI) have shown interest in bringing back Ishan ahead of the auction. The franchise has approached the Hyderabad-based franchise about a potential move, but discussions remain in the early stages, with no agreement reached so far.
A Lot of Things Are Going On About Ishan Kishan - Rohit Juglan
The Mumbai Indians are looking to re-sign Ishan Kishan as an ideal option to strengthen their top order once again. The Kolkata Knight Riders are also in contention, as the franchise continues to search for a dependable Indian top-order batter who can also serve as a wicketkeeper.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Journalist Rohit Juglan confirmed that both Mumbai and Kolkata have shown strong interest in Kishan. He hinted that the Knight Riders are seeking a wicketkeeper who can also take on a leadership role within the team.
“A lot of things are going on about Ishan Kishan. I know there are one or two teams, including Mumbai Indians, who are very interested in him at the moment. And there’s also a wicketkeeper looking for a captain-batter — you all know which team that is, Kolkata Knight Riders,” Juglan stated.
Sunrisers Hyderabad signed Ishan Kishan for ₹11.25 crore in the Mega Auction
After being released by the Mumbai Indians following the 2024 season, Ishan Kishan was expected to return to his former franchise at the auction. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured his services for ₹11.25 crore ahead of IPL 2025.
Ishan began his campaign with a century in the opening match but struggled to maintain that momentum throughout the tournament. He finished with 354 runs in 13 innings at an average of 35.4 and a strike rate of 152.58, including one century and one half-century.
Kishan can contribute both as a wicketkeeper and a top-order batter. With the mini-auction approaching, several franchises, including Kolkata Knight Riders, have reportedly approached SRH to explore a trade or an all-cash deal.
Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz Failed to Impress for KKR in IPL 2025
Kolkata Knight Riders released Phil Salt ahead of the auction. Their wicketkeeping options failed to deliver in the 2025 season. Quinton de Kock struggled to find consistency, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz also failed to make a strong impression.
KKR may release Venkatesh Iyer to free up a significant portion of their purse. Meanwhile, if Sunrisers Hyderabad decides to trade Ishan Kishan, they already have Heinrich Klaasen to take over the wicketkeeping duties.
However, the franchise will still need to recruit a reliable Indian top or middle-order batter to balance their lineup in Kishan’s absence. The left-handed batter scored 173 for Jharkhand in their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 opener, helping his team secure an innings-and-114-run victory over Tamil Nadu in Coimbatore.
