Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant is ready to attend the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Dubai on Tuesday (December 19). The event will mark his first official engagement since the near-fatal accident he survived on New Year’s Eve last year. Rishabh Pant’s car collided on a divider and caught fire in which he incurred multiple injuries.

A member of the ownership group of the franchise has confirmed Pant’s presence in the auction. However, whether he will raise the paddle or not is not confirmed. The member also confirmed that Rishah Pant will be fully fit to participate in IPL 2024 next year and will be leading the side as well. Rishabh Pant is expected to regain his full fitness by February end. As per earlier reports, the IPL is expected to start in the last week of March.

The 25-year-old keeper/batter is set to become the first-ever reigning captain to participate in a live IPL auction actively. Along with Pant, coach Ricky Ponting will be at the auction table for Delhi Capitals. Rishabh Pant was involved in the team’s planning for the auction. Franchise sources revealed he actively participated in the meeting with coach Ricky Ponting.

Delhi Capitals did not have a season to remember in the IPL 2023 where they finished ninth on the points table. David Warner was leading the side in the absence of Rishabh Pant but the team could only manage to secure five wins in 14 matches. This season, the franchise will hope to have a different result as their skipper is back and will actively participate in the IPL.

Apart From Rishabh Pant, Gautam Gambhir Will Also Be Present In The Auctions

Gautam Gambhir, who recently joined Kolkata Knight Riders as the team’s mentor, will be there at the auction among other star presences. He will take the table for Kolkata Knight Riders. Among owners, Akash Ambani will take the table for Mumbai Indians, while Ness Wadia of Punjab Kings has also arrived in Dubai. Jay Mehta of Knight Riders is also here in Dubai. Most of the owners of the 10 franchises are expected to be present.

A total of 332 players will go under the hammer in the auction which was supposed to be 333 but three players are reported to have withdrawn their name. Rehan Ahmed (England), Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam (both Bangladesh) have withdrawn their name from the IPL 2024. However, two players have been added to the original list of 333 players.

Kaushal Tambe (Maharashtra) and Sahil Dhiwan (Rajasthan) have been added to the auction roster, making the total number 332. Additionally, Nandre Burger, who recently debuted for South Africa against India, has been moved to the capped category from the uncapped lot. Consequently, his base price has been revised to Rs 50 lakhs which was previously, Rs 20 lakhs.

The IPL auctions will take place in Dubai and a total of 332 players will go under the hammer. Names like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Rachin Ravindra, etc. can attract a lot of buyers after a memorable World Cup 2023 campaign.
