Young South African cricketer Tristan Stubbs has registered for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025 mega auction) despite being retained by the Delhi Capitals (DC). Tristan Stubbs’ name is on the list of players registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction, according to a recent report from the Sports Tak website.
The IPL 2025 mega auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24-25. A total of 1,574 players have registered by the November 4 deadline, comprising 1,165 Indian and 409 overseas players. Among them, 320 are capped players, 1,224 are uncapped, and 30 are from Associate Nations.
Player Auction Will Be Held Over Two Days In Jeddah - IPL
“The IPL player registration officially closed on November 4, 2024, with an impressive total of 1,574 players (1,165 Indian and 409 overseas) signing up to be part of the mega TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction, which will be held over two days on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,” said the release.
“The list includes 320 capped players, 1,224 uncapped players, and 30 players from Associate Nations,” the release added.
This is not the final list for the IPL 2025 auction. Only players who attract interest from the franchises will go under the hammer. Currently, 48 capped Indian players and 272 international stars have registered. 965 uncapped Indian players and 104 uncapped players from overseas have registered for the auction.
Following India, South Africa has the highest number of registrations (91), with Australia (76) and England (52) next. Ten players from the USA, four from Canada, two from Scotland, and one each from the UAE and Italy have registered for the upcoming auction. Pakistani players remain excluded from the event.
Tristan Stubbs Appears On The List Of Registered Players
In a surprising move, Tristan Stubbs is listed as the 253rd player on the list, with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore, according to Sports Tak. However, Stubbs' inclusion may come as a surprise to the Delhi Capitals, who likely didn’t expect their retained player to be listed for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction.
Stubbs was one of the four players retained by the Delhi Capitals. He was retained for a whopping Rs 10 crore. Axar Patel was the top pick at Rs 16.50 crore, followed by Kuldeep Yadav at Rs 13.25 crore. The Capitals also retained wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel for Rs 4 crore as their uncapped player.
Tristan Stubbs Acquired by DC For Rs 50 Lakh Before IPL 2024
Tristan Stubbs was acquired by the Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs 50 lakh during the IPL 2024 auction. Stubbs impressed during his debut season for DC, scoring 378 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 54 and an outstanding strike rate of 190.90, with the help of three half-centuries.
The South African cricketer also took three wickets in two overs at an economy rate of 7.25. DC retained Stubbs ahead of other overseas stars like Anrich Nortje, David Warner, and Mitchell Marsh. The Delhi-based franchise still has a purse of Rs 73 crore for the upcoming auction.
