Team India all-rounder Washington Sundar is reportedly set to enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, which is likely scheduled for November 25-26 in Riyadh. According to a recent report from The Times of India, three IPL franchises have shown interest in acquiring Washington Sundar.
Sundar grabbed attention with his impressive bowling performance during the second Test against New Zealand in Pune. The right-arm off-spinner picked up 11 wickets in India's loss to New Zealand. He secured his maiden Test five-wicket haul in the first innings, followed by four in the second innings
Three Teams Interested In Washington Sundar During Mega Auction
Washington Sundar, currently with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is reportedly interested in entering the IPL auction pool. As per Times of India, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Mumbai Indians (MI) are interested in him. SRH might try to use the Right to Match (RTM) card in the auction.
"Sundar is keen to go into the auction pool. At the moment, at least three teams - Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Chennai Super Kings - have shown a huge interest in him. While he will not be in the Sunrisers Hyderabad's retention list, SRH could retain Sundar in the IPL auction by using the RTM (Right to Match) card," a reliable source told TOI.
Chennai Super Kings may go after him, as he's familiar with the Chepauk pitch. For Mumbai Indians, Sundar would be valuable for bowling during the powerplay and contributing with the bat. Gujarat Titans might also bid for him, as he could be a partner for Rashid Khan in the bowling lineup this IPL season.
Washington Sundar Made For RPS His IPL Debut In 2017
Washington Sundar, who is representing India in all formats, is likely to attract bid wars in the IPL auction. The spinner had a challenging IPL season this year, where Sunrisers Hyderabad rarely used him due to the 'Impact Player' rule. Sundar only played two games in IPL 2024, taking one wicket in five overs.
Sundar has represented India in 52 T20Is, taking 47 wickets with an average of 23.48. He scored 161 runs at an average of 13.41, including a half-century. His first IPL breakthrough came in 2017 with Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), where his economical bowling was crucial in helping the team reach the final.
