It was match no.65 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens, where the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hosted the struggling Mumbai Indians (MI). The Knights took their revenge on Hardik Pandya’s side and kept their hopes alive for the playoffs. The home side won the game by 4 wickets, as they climb up to 6th in the points table.
Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to field first. They played the same team, but Matheesha Pathirana was out from the last game, with Rovman Powell coming back in the side. On the other hand, for the five-time champions, their regular captain Hardik Pandya was back, and also Allah Ghazanfar.
IPL 2026: KKR VS MI Match Result:
After being asked to bat first, MI openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma did not have the best of starts. The South Africa batter went back early for just 6 runs, Cameron Green got the breakthrough, and then followed Naman Dhir on a duck in the same over. Saurabh Dubey, who was troubling Rohit, got the wicket of the former India captain for 15 runs.
Then Suryakumar Yadav, who looked in good touch, could not convert his start to a big score out for 15 off 5 balls. Blues were trailing at the score of 46/4 after the end of the power play.
After that, the rain came in, and then Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma stitched a partnership as the latter was dropped with two Knight fielders, Varun Chakravarthy and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, colliding. But Tilak, who was struggling, was dismissed in the score of 20 runs off 32 balls. Hardik also did not survive and was castled by Sunil Narine on 26 runs.
Corbin Bosch played a handy knock of 32 runs off 18 deliveries, posting a fighting total of 147/8 in the 20 overs. Three KKR bowlers, Kartik Tyagi, Saurabh Dubey, and Cam Green, picked up two wickets each and bowled brilliantly.
Coming out to chase, KKR lost Finn Allen early on as the Kiwi batter scored 8 runs. Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey then stitched a partnership, but the KKR captain never got going and was back for 21 runs. Soon, Cam Green also went back for just 4 runs.
Then Rovman Powell and Manish Pandey stitched a partnership of 64 runs. The former was given a lifeline with a confusion between two MI fielders, after that, the big West Indies batter took his charge. The latter was dismissed on the score of 45 runs and nearly sealed the game for the side. Powell was dismissed on 40 runs.
Rinku Singh and concussion substitute Tejasvi Dahiya did the finishing job and kept the Knights in the hunt till now as they face Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final game of the season at this same venue.
