In the first game that was washed out, they produced a brilliant effort as they managed 246 runs in their quota of 50 overs. They lost early wickets in that game but a brilliant performance from the lower order took them to a fighting total. They then took three wickets off the opposition as well for 66 runs before rain played the spoilsport.

In the second game, they chased down the mammoth target of 319 runs in the rain-curtailed game that saw him take a 1-0 lead in the series. If this was enough they then produced a brilliant effort with the ball as they defend a target of 274 runs to win the game by 4 runs.

Tamim Iqbal said that it was a brilliant effort from their end and they often lost the matches from winning situations but this series was special for them. He also opened up about his tactics with the ball in the third ODI. Speaking to reporters, he said:

“I thought throughout the series we played really tough cricket. Chasing 320 in 45 overs, regardless of the ground size or opposition, is a hard task. The way we batted was amazing. Today, it is a very special game for me. We have always seen this kind of situation on the other side. We lost from such winning positions, especially with the ball

“The bowling unit will get incredible confidence from this win. It wasn’t easy to defend 274 at this ground. I thought we did a great job. Miraz’s bowling inspired me to take a chance with Shanto. He took a wicket in the first over and so I continued with him. The match turned on its head in his three overs and Mustafizur’s overs.”

Tamim Iqbal further went on to say that although they need to improve their batting but he is happy with the overall performance in the series. He highlighted how they overcame challenges, which they couldn’t earlier, to defend the target.

He elaborated: “I think we should have batted a bit better, especially in a situation like today’s game. We were batting at six [runs] an over in the first 25 overs. We should have scored 310-315. We are playing without one [extra] batter. All of us should have taken a little bit more responsibility.

“I am overall happy with this series. We chased 320 successfully. We didn’t defend games like today [in the past] but did it here. There are more positives than negatives.”

The series win against Ireland could be a great boost for Bangladesh, considering the two major events in Asia Cup 2023 and Cricket World Cup 2023 scheduled to take place in the next few months.
