IRE vs BAN: "Not Ideal Preparations For Ireland Series": Bangladesh Coach Chandika Hathurusingha

Bangladesh coach Coach Chandika Hathurusingha has said that the team has not got time for ideal preparations ahead of the Ireland ODI series which is a part of the ICC ODI Super League. The visitors have been ruined of preparation time due to inclement weather conditions.

The three-match ODI series kicks off with the first ODI in Chelmsford on May 9. The second ODI will be played on May 12 followed by the third on May 14. All the matches will be played in Chelmsford.

Bangladesh’s practice game against Ireland Wolves has washed away on May 5. That was their only practice game before the first ODI on May 9. Ireland is also eyeing direct qualification for the ODI World Cup in India later this year.

Bangladesh Denied Ideal Preparation Due To Bad Weather: Chandika Hathurusingha

“It’s a very unique situation since we are playing Ireland in England and normally that doesn’t happen. We can’t blame anyone and it’s the first time. If we knew this, we wouldn’t have agreed to this kind of schedule because it’s not ideal preparation. We learn from this one,” Hathurusingha told reporters on Monday.

The Bangladesh coach further said that since they are not going to get similar conditions in India during the World Cup, they are not thinking too far ahead at this point in time.

“In this series, not much since we are not playing in similar conditions to India. We will contemplate on winning the series in these conditions. Not much looking into the world cup due to the conditions,” he said.

The Bangladesh ODI side for the series has plenty of experience with Tamim Iqbal leading the side. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan, their two senior all-rounders are also part of the squad. Bangladesh coach Hathurusingha that team is fortunate to have the all-rounders in their squad.

Bangladesh Fortunate To Have Two Good All-Rounders: Chandika Hathurusingha

“Actually he (Mehedy) is a genuine batter since he has a Test and an ODI hundred. We can treat him as a genuine all-rounder. We have another genuine all-rounder in Shakib Al Hasan so we are very fortunate in terms of whatever combination we want to go with whether an extra batter or bowler”, the Bangladesh coach concluded saying.
