Cricket Ireland has announced five different squads for the upcoming tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, which are scheduled to take place in March and April 2023. The Ireland Men’s cricket team will play Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on back-to-back tours in multiple formats.

The Ireland squad will leave Dublin in March. Their first series will be in Bangladesh, where a warm-up game on March 15 will be followed by three one-day internationals, three T20Is, and a Test match. Following the series against Bangladesh, Ireland will tour Sri Lanka for two ODIs and one Test match, which will be the first-ever Test match played between the two sides.

Opener Paul Stirling and left-arm seamer Josh Little will miss Tests in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka due to their international and franchise cricket commitments. Former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Peter Moor gets his first Ireland call-up.

Stirling will focus on white-ball cricket as Ireland looks to qualify for the World Cup this year. Little, who signed for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction, will take to the field in Bangladesh’s ODIs before missing the rest of the tour.

Wicketkeeper-batsman PJ Moore, who was included in both Test squads in Bangladesh, had experience playing in Bangladesh, scoring 63* and 83 during the tour there in November 2018. All five sides have fellow wicketkeeper and batsman Lorcan Tucker, who was brilliant in last year’s T20 World Cup.

Ireland’s squad has 10 players who could make their red-ball debuts, and coach Heinrich Malan sees the matches as a “blank canvas”. Matthew Humphries, who played for Ireland in the Under-19 World Cup, was picked up for the senior set-up and named in all five squads.
