Probably The Most Pleasing Aspect Today Was The Fight We Showed: Ireland Captain Tim Tector
Ireland bowlers went into the defense of a small total with much confidence, having bowled out Scotland for 44 runs in their league match last Thursday. And they allowed only three Scottish batsmen into double figures with Gallmann-Findlay making 12, Tomas Mackintosh making 15, and Rafay Khan making 10 runs.
Scotland was bowled out for just 66 runs as Ireland U19 won the match by 78 runs and qualified for the 2022 U19 World Cup.
Matthew Humphreys picked 5/25, following up after his 4 wickets in the previous league match. Nathan McGuire picked took 2/14.
Ireland captain Tim Tector said: “We were really ecstatic there when we took that last wicket – it’s not every day you qualify for a world cup. Probably the most pleasing aspect today was the fight we showed, to bounce back the way we did this week after that first loss was great.
I’m just really delighted for the whole squad – but the hard work really starts now, as it’s about three months until we head to the Caribbean for the world cup, so we will just put our heads down and train hard. And then, when we’re out there we’ll be sure to enjoy the experience – as I said earlier, it’s not every day you qualify for a world cup.”
