Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has heaped praise on Rinku Singh for his perseverance and has revealed a heartwarming incident between him and the batsman.

Rinku Singh, on Thursday (November 23), further enhanced his reputation as one of the most exciting finishers in the game by performing well in the first T20I against Australia. Chasing a mammoth total of 209 runs, India were in a good spot before pressing the panic button towards the end. However, Rinku Singh remained firm at one end and made sure to take the team home.

When one run was needed off the final ball, he hit Sean Abbott for a big six but unfortunately, it did not count as the bowler had already overstepped. As a result, the one run from the no-ball was enough for India to seal the game. Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on 22 runs off 14 balls with the help of 4 fours.

Abhishek Nayar praises Rinku Singh:

Abhishek Nayar was in the stadium as a commentator and once again saw Rinku Singh’s finishing abilities. The KKR coach heaped praise on the left-handed batter after the game and lauded him for his fighting spirit. He also revealed how a worried Rinku Singh called him before the IPL 2022 auction and requested another chance.

“There are very few players, who haven’t played in the IPL for 3-4 years, and when they get a chance after 4 years, they perform and perform in this way. Rinku Singh deserves a lot of credit for this. He never breaks. He had a knee injury in the middle where he couldn’t play in the IPL for a year when we reached the final,” said Nayar.

“Rinku called me before the 2022 IPL auction and asked me to pick him up saying “is saal main pakka achcha karunga bhaiya”, and I told him KKR isn’t leaving you anyways,” he added.

Rinku Singh enjoyed a breakout IPL season this year. In 14 games, the highly-rated batsman scored 474 runs at a stunning strike rate of almost 150. He also played one of the best knocks in the history of the IPL this year when he smashed five sixes on the last five balls to snatch a miraculous victory for his side against Gujarat Titans.
