Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has declared the current Rohit Sharma-led team as the best in the nation’s history. Sanjay Manjrekar emphasized that the team possesses a rare combination of high-quality talent in both the batting and bowling departments.
The Rohit Sharma-led team remained unbeaten in the league stage of the ICC World Cup 2023, winning all nine matches. The home team defeated New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semi-final match in Mumbai, securing a berth in the final match of the marquee event.
Fab Four In The Batting Department – Sanjay Manjrekar
In a video shared by Start SPorts on X (formerly known as Twitter), Sanjay Manjrekar highlighted the historical stages of Indian cricket, citing the “two little Masters” in the 70s and 80s and the “Fab 4” in the late 90s and 2000s.
“Historically, Indian cricket has always had various stages. We had two little Masters in the ’70s and ’80s, then we had the Fab 4 in the late ’90s and 2000s. Now, we’ve got Fab Four, if not Fab Five, in the bowling department, along with Fab Four in the batting department. So, that is where India has been different, where there is further sheer quality in batting and bowling, which has rarely happened in the history of Indian cricket,” Majrekar told Star Sports.
Indian batters and bowlers have been in brilliant form in the tournament. Virat Kohli (711), Rohit Sharma (550), and Shreyas Iyer (526) scored more than 500 runs. Mohammed Shami (23), Jasprit Bumrah (18), and Ravindra Jadeja (16) contributed with the ball.
India’s Graph Has Gone Up – Sanjay Manjrekar
The cricketer-turned-commentator emphasized that India’s graph has risen while other major teams’ graphs have declined, making the gap between India and the rest more pronounced.
“So that is what sets them apart, and India’s graph has gone up while some of the other major teams’ graph has gone down. So the Gulf between India and the rest is more pronounced,” Majrekar further stated.
The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on the Pat Cummins-led team in the final match of the showpiece event at the world’s largest stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Sunday, November 19.
