Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik opined that Ishan Kishan is a good fielder and can attack from the first ball of the game.
The Jharkhand batter was benched in the second ODI against West Indies after he made 28 while opening the innings alongside Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the first match.
Ishan Kishan still waiting to make his place in the Indian side
Ishan Kishan is recognised for his fearless batting for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, he scored 1133 runs from 45 IPL games for the five-time IPL champions, his highest score being 99 against RCB in IPL 2020.
Ishan is yet to cement his place in the Indian side as he hasn’t been given enough opportunities to justify his potential.
Ishan Kishan is a good fielder: Dinesh Karthik
Karthik said that India will look at Ishan Kishan as a pure opener and also heaped praise on his fielding skills.
“Ishan by now would know that among all the available spots, the one that has the most competition is the opening. There are way too many openers and just two spots. He’s going to be aware of that… but the good thing for Ishan is that he’s not just a keeper.
“He’s a good fielder as well. You double up as an option on the field. They are going to look at him as a pure opener like they did in the first game against West Indies,” Karthik said in the pre-match show on Cricbuzz.
“He’s got tremendous skills… he can attack from ball one. That’s a skill every player doesn’t possess. In the new age, players try to attack a lot from ball one. Teams that have succeeded in doing that consistently have done very well in multi-nation tournaments. So Ishan definitely has a good chance to come into the scheme of things,” he further said.
Ishan Kishan was released by Mumbai Indians in the retention window as they retained Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav. The Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter has registered himself under the base price of INR 2 crore.
