Jharkhand cricketer Ishan Kishan posted a photo of himself after clearing the new 2-km run in a BCCI conducted fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. This came despite reports surfacing online that Kishan, along with a few more cricketers failed to clear this particular fitness test and will be given a fresh chance to do so at a later date.

The BCCI recently announced a new fitness test in which the players had to complete a run of 2 kilometers. This is in addition to the already hard to clear yo-yo Test. Players need to finish this test within specific time limits, which are different for batsmen and bowlers. In this test, a batsman, wicketkeeper or spinner has to complete the two-kilometer distance in eight minutes and 30 seconds, while for a fast bowler, the benchmark is eight minutes and 15 seconds.

The test was conducted for the first time featuring some junior-level players including Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Siddarth Kaul, Ishan Kishan, etc. It has been reported that as many as six players, including wicket-keeper batsman Samson, have failed the test.

As per TOI reports, apart from Samson, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Siddharth Kaul, and Jaydev Unadkat all failed to clear this new test and will be given a fresh opportunity to do so at a later date. However, if they still fail to clear the test, their selection for the upcoming England T20Is and ODIs will be in jeopardy.

“Since this is a new type of a fitness test, they will all get a second chance to clear it at a fresh date, after some gap. However, if they fail to clear it, then it puts their selection for the forthcoming white-ball series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs against England at home in doubt,” a source told TOI.

“A few fitness tests were conducted for around 20-odd cricketers who are in reckoning for the limited overs series against England at home, and for the T20 World Cup in India later this year. Six of the players failed to clear these tests. Some players barely managed to complete the run. Like in the case of the yo-yo test, it will be mandatory. Kohli and Shastri are convinced about this criterion being set in stone,” the source said.
