India wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan broke the silence on why he didn't play in the Ranji Trophy despite being asked by Rahul Dravid and BCCI to play. He said that playing in domestic cricket amidst his break didn't make any sense to him and he wasn't in the right frame of mind.

The last few months haven't been easy at all for the India keeper-batter Ishan Kishan. From being a first-choice player in the Indian XI to being nowhere around the Indian setup, things didn't go his way at all. Not only was he dropped from the team, but he was also axed from the BCCI's central contract.

After Ishan Kishan opted for a break from the South Africa Tests, then head coach Rahul Dravid mentioned that to make a comeback in the Indian team, the keeper-batter needs to play domestic cricket. Even BCCI was on the same page with Dravid and highlighted the importance of playing domestic cricket.

However, Ishan Kishan didn't listen to Rahul Dravid and BCCI and didn't turn up for Jharkhand in the domestic setup. This didn't go well with the governing body as they believed that keeper-batter showed arrogance and hence he was terminated from the annual contracts.

Ishan Kishan while talking about why he didn't play in the Ranji Trophy stated that playing domestic cricket made no sense to him because he had taken a break from international cricket. He pointed out that if he had to play for Jharkhand then he wouldn't have to take a break from international cricket. Speaking to Indian Express, he stated:

"I took a break and I think it was normal. There is a rule that if you want to make a comeback you must perform in domestic cricket. It is as simple as that. Now, it was very different for me to play domestic cricket as it was not making any sense.

"I was not in a frame of mind to play and that is why I took a break from international cricket. It doesn’t make sense that you take a break from international cricket and then you go and play domestic matches. Fir toh aap international hi khelte (Then I could have continued playing for India)."

I know it’s not going to be easy - Ishan Kishan on a comeback to the Indian team

Ishan Kishan Kishan also talked about his comeback in the Indian team. He expressed his joy to see Rishabh Pant returning to the field but also admitted that with a lot of competition around, it won't be easy for him to make a comeback. He concluded by saying that he will keep giving his best and doesn't want to stress about his selection.

"It was heartening to see Rishabh back in action. As far as competition goes, you love challenges and when you compete with all the quality cricketers, it enhances your game. And then when you make it you feel like you have earned it.

"I know it’s not going to be easy. But I feel competition gives you that feeling of satisfaction. I enjoy it. I don’t take any stress about it," he concluded.
