Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has scripted the history on Day 2 of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2026 final between the East Zone and the South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday, September 7, 2026.
The East Zone captain smashed a brilliant double century on Day 2 of the summit clash to take his team to a strong position against the South Zone, led by Tilak Varma, in Chennai. Earlier, Ishan Kishan’s GF shared a heartfelt message after the keeper-batter’s Duleep Trophy century.

Ishan Kishan hit Devdutt Padikkal through the covers for a boundary, bringing up his remarkable double century in style. After reaching the three figures, Ishan became the first East Zone batter in 31 years to score a double hundred in the Duleep Trophy.
He reached the milestone as captain, making the achievement even more special. His unbeaten double century has put him in the history books, as Ishan became the only second player to do so as the captain. The last player to achieve the feat was Anshuman Gaekwad in 1987.
Ishan also becomes only the fifth batter in Duleep Trophy history to score 200 or more runs in the final. It was also Kishan's first-ever double century in first-class cricket. Amid this, Indian cricketer knocked unconscious after collision in KCL 2026 final, hospitalized.

Ishan Kishan had a brilliant day with the bat, but the long innings finally started taking a toll on him. The East Zone captain looked tired and struggled with the heat and humidity before the physio came onto the field to check on him during the summit clash.
After a short discussion, Kishan decided to walk off the ground and retire hurt. His teammates gave him a big round of applause as he made his way back to the pavilion after scoring a stunning 250 while facing 301 balls. He smashed 27 massive boundaries and 7 sixes against the South Zone.
Three huge partnerships put East Zone in command
Before retiring hurt, Ishan had stitched three massive partnerships during his record knock against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He stitched 94 runs off 128 balls with Shikhar Mohan (85) for the fourth wicket and then added 230 runs off 287 balls with Kumar Kushagra (101) and 140 runs off 180 balls with Anukul Roy (45) for the fifth and sixth wickets.
The fatigue finally forced him to stop, but his outstanding performance had already taken East Zone to a commanding position (646/6*) in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2026 final against South Zone in Chennai. South Zone bowlers Tripurana Vijay, Shreyas Gopal and Mohammed Siraj were taken by the East Zone batters in the summit clash in Chennai.
