Ishan Kishan named captain of Jharkhand for thrilling Ranji Trophy 2024-25

India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan has been named as the captain of the Jharkhand in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The first round of the tournament will begin on Friday (11th October).

Jharkhand will be opening their campaign in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 against Assam in Guhawati. With him being named as the captain of the team, it will be a massive boost for Ishan Kishan, who is now eyeing a comeback into the India National Cricket Team.

Kishan, who opted out of cricket due to personal reasons, made a return to domestic cricket for Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu tournament, where he slammed a century.

After that, he featured in the Duleep Trophy for India C and also registered a ton there as well before turning up for the Rest Of India in the Irani Cup.

Kishan, after he opted out of the Indian team, was terminated from the BCCI's contract as well. This was because he didn't agree to play in the domestic circuit despite the repeated warnings by the India National Cricket Team management as well as the governing body.

However, the sources who were close to Ishan Kishan at that time mentioned that the keeper-batter has always given priority to the Ranji Trophy. While mentioning that all the accusations were rubbish, he had said:

“Ishan has always given priority to the Ranji Trophy. In the 2022-23 season, he was constantly travelling with the Indian cricket team, but despite the hectic schedule, he played a couple of Ranji Trophy games and scored a century against Kerala, which helped him earn a place in India’s Test team. All these accusations are just rubbish.”

With Kishan now making a sensational return to the domestic circuit, the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 will be a huge platform for him to make a comeback in the India National Cricket Team as he would be keen to set the stage on fire and earn his spot back in the team.

Kishan was a regular member of the Indian team in all three formats in 2023. He even played in the ICC World Cup 2023. But he opted out of the team during the Test series against South Africa, which was played in December last year. After that, he hasn't featured for the team.
