The India National Cricket Team’s injury crisis on the England tour has taken another worrying turn. Just hours after star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was ruled out for six weeks with a toe fracture that he sustained during the ongoing fourth Test in Manchester, reports have now revealed that his reported replacement, Ishan Kishan, is also not completely fit.

Ishan Kishan, who was reportedly drafted in as a standby after Pant was forced to retire hurt on Day 1 of the ongoing fourth Test against England at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, is reportedly still recovering and not at full match fitness.

Ishan Kishan is not fully fit to play in England Tests

A Revsportz report reads, “Ishan Kishan is not completely fit at this point. Remains to be seen whether India brings a replacement.”

With Pant already out and Kishan’s availability uncertain, India now faces a serious wicketkeeping dilemma as they aim to level the Test series in Manchester.

With no fully fit keeper available at the moment, all eyes are now on whether the Indian selectors will announce a new replacement or play Dhruv Jurel in the remainder of the ongoing England tour. The situation is really challenging for the Indian cricket team, as they are already missing key players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh due to injuries.

Ishan Kishan bounces back in style after BCCI's punishment

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan’s journey over the past year has been full of ups and downs. In 2024, he lost his place in the BCCI Central Contract list because he didn’t follow the board’s rule of playing domestic cricket. But Ishan made a strong comeback with Jharkhand in the 2024-25 season, and his efforts paid off as he earned back his BCCI contract earlier this year.

Currently, Ishan is playing for Northamptonshire in England’s County Championship Division One and has shown impressive form with scores of 87 and 77. Earlier this year, the wicketkeeper scored 354 runs in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025.

He made headlines with a stunning debut for SRH, smashing his first IPL century in just 45 balls against the Rajasthan Royals. Sunrisers Hyderabad had spent INR 11.25 crore to buy Ishan at the mega auction, after his previous stint as one of Mumbai Indians’ costliest players.

Ishan Kishan's India journey and FC numbers

Speaking about his journey in Test cricket, the left-handed batter played only two tests, and that was against the West Indies in 2023, and scored only 78 runs with one half-century to his name. However, he created history by hitting the fastest-ever double century in ODIs, beating Chris Gayle’s record.

He reached 200 in just 126 balls and became the youngest player to achieve the feat. Ishan has represented India in 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is so far and amassed 933 and 796 runs, respectively. He has played 60 first-class matches and scored 3611 runs for Jharkhand with the help of eight hundreds and 19 fifties at an average of around 39 and a strike rate of nearly 70.
