Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson was full of praise for the swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman, Jos Buttler, whose whirlwind maiden T20 century laid the cornerstone for an eventual 55-run-win over SunRisers Hyderabad in Delhi on Sunday.
Jos Buttler’s knock was a tale of two contrasting halves. The right-hander struggled in the first half as he managed his first 50 runs in 39 deliveries.
But just like every great batsman, Buttler switched gears seamlessly as he, en-route to a 56-ball ton, smashed his last 74 runs in just 25 deliveries in what an enthralling display of power-hitting.
The Royals smashed 3/220 in 20 overs and their batting display was backed up with an equally brilliant bowling performance, spearheaded by Mustafizur Rahman and Chris Morris, both of whom claimed three wickets apiece.
Sanju Samson was full of praise for his bowling unit.
“Absolutely, it’s always a pleasure to bat with Jos. When Jos goes on, it’s always a good sight for us. I think it was a very clinical performance. We started well in the powerplay and just stuck to our plans. It can be a funny game and they have some hitters in their line-up,” said Sanju Samson in the post-match presentation.
The 55-run victory is Rajasthan Royals’ third win in seven games they’ve played this season.
Sanju Samson admitted that his team hasn’t won as many games as they would have liked but he reckoned that the IPL is an unpredictable tournament and a campaign can change within a space of few deliveries.
”I think we haven’t won as many matches as we would have liked, but it can be funny in the IPL. One ball can change the result. It doesn’t matter if I am in form, I want to contribute in a better and dominant way and help my team win,” he added.
