It Was Hard To Take But Was The Sensible Thing To Do - Sam Curran Explains Why He Opt To Miss IPL 2022 Season

England all-rounder Sam Curran has been missing in action since late last season due to a back injury. He was ruled out of the second phase of the IPL 2021 season that was taking place in the UAE.
Curran was looking forward to returning to the IPL this season but he didn’t want to rush into the game too quickly and risk aggravating the already serious back injury.
“I was gutted not to go to the IPL. It was hard to take, but it was the sensible thing to do – to concentrate on playing for Surrey and getting back ready to play some red-ball cricket, which is something I haven’t done for a while with Surrey.”

“I probably could have gone to the IPL, but the advice was for my back to heal properly. If I had gone and got injured I would have been angry at myself, and it would have been a question of rolling the dice.
“But you learn so much from all the players there, guys who have played at that level for a long time. I certainly felt my game has improved from playing in the IPL,” Curran said.
“When you play against the best you’re always being challenged” – Sam Curran on playing in the IPL
Every cricketer hopes to be a part of the IPL as it gives a chance to play with the best and improve one’s overall game. Curran, who was part of the CSK set-up last season, did exactly the same which has helped grow his game.

“When you go down to breakfast, you’re chatting with all these superstars and you’re constantly learning how to play in sub-continent conditions. When you play against the best you’re always being challenged.
“I’m gutted not to be out there, but I’m really excited about the county season because we’ve got a good vibe going at Surrey,” he further added.
