Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locked horns with the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 19th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025).

Team Sunrisers Hyderabad lost the match against Team Gujarat Titans by 7 wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Sunday, April 6.

It was getting harder to get some fluency in your innings - Pat Cummins

Batting first in the match, the opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head once again failed and the rest of the batters were not able to play big knocks. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen, and Pat Cummins put up some fight and took SRH's total to 152/8.

Defending the score, Mohammed Shami dismissed Sai Sudharsan in the third over, while Cummins cleaned up Jos Buttler in the 4th over, leaving GT reeling at 2/16. However, then Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar built a great partnership, and GT completed the run-chase in 16.4 overs.

Speaking after the match, a disappointed Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins said that the pitch produced for the SRH vs GT game was not a traditional Hyderabad surface as it was quite slow, and batting got harder. He further said that they wanted to get some early wickets in the powerplay to stay in the game

"Well, it was not a traditional Hyderabad wicket. It was getting harder to get some fluency in your innings. We wanted to take a few early wickets in the powerplay and stay in the game," Cummins said.

The wicket did not spin as much as we thought - Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins also said that the pitch didn't turn as much as they expected it to and complained about the dew factor as well.

"The wicket did not spin as much as we thought. There was a little bit of dew which obviously did not help us," Cummins said.

While talking about the impact sub option, Pat Cummins revealed that they were in two minds as they had kept both Simarjeet Singh and Rahul Chahar on stand-by but then decided to go with the pacer. He said:

"(On the Impact Sub) No, we were in two minds actually whether to go for Chahar or Simarjeet. Actually in the first innings, we saw that the pace bowlers were getting some more help from the surface so we went with Simarjeet."

How did SRH perform in the previous completed IPL match against GT?

The previous IPL match between SRH and GT got washed out. Talking about their last completed match, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a frustrating outing in Ahmedabad as they faced a seven-wicket defeat against Gujarat Titans.

Batting first, SRH got off to a decent start through Travis Head (19 off 14) and Mayank Agarwal (16 off 17), but neither could convert their starts. Abhishek Sharma’s quickfire 29 off 20 and a late flourish from Abdul Samad (29 off 14) gave the innings some momentum, but the lack of big scores from any top and middle order hurt them as that eventually finished with a total of 162/8.

Defending the score, SRH bowlers couldn’t do enough to stop GT from chasing down. Despite Pat Cummins getting the wicket of Sai Sudharsan and Shahbaz Ahmed removing Wriddhiman Saha, they struggled to build pressure on GT.

SRH also managed to pick the wicket of Shubman Gill but a below-par bowling performance allowed GT to complete run-chase in 19.1 overs.
