It Will Happen Whenever He Feels He’s Ready - WV Raman Confident Rahul Dravid Will Take Over As India's Full-Time Head Coach

Former India batsman WV Raman is confident that Rahul Dravid will become the full-time head coach of the Indian team. Ravi Shastri, the current head coach in England, will see his tenure come to an end when the T20 World Cup later in the year will conclude.

Rahul Dravid is currently with the second-string side in Sri Lanka as the head coach.

WV Raman, the former India women’s head coach, said the legendary batsman will take over the role for sure as he has been in the coaching role – for under-19, India A, and the head of the NCA – for the past few years.

“I won’t want to talk about the time frame but that (Dravid taking over as full-time head coach) is likely to happen, maybe some time in future. I can’t be indulging in crystal ball glazing and say when it will happen but it will happen whenever Dravid is ready.

“In fact, there has been a lot of talk going around for the last four-five years. It’ll happen when he feels he’s ready to take the travel,” WV Raman told Hindustan Times.

Raman also pointed out that Rahul Dravid would be a key member in the next transition phase of Indian cricket as he has worked with a lot of youngsters already and know them inside out. He had coached the under-19 side to a World Cup; his work with the A team produced great results when an Indian team full of backups players defeated Australia away in a Test series.

“He can make them aware of the talent they possess. And he can also help them utilise that talent towards achieving the optimum. He’s anyway worked with most of these youngsters for a period of three-four years.

“But if he’s there with them regularly for a period of say two years, it will be easier to make changes as both the players and he will stick together and chalk out a plan or a routine on how to go about things. So a lot depends on the tenure that a coach works with the players,” Raman added.
