Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch has said that the Group 1 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is a tough one. Australia will be hosting the marquee tournament, which will commence on October 16.
In the Super 12 stage, Australia National Cricket Team are placed in Group 1 along with England National Cricket Team, New Zealand National Cricket Team and Afghanistan National Cricket Team. Also, the winner of Group A and runner-up of Group B from the Round 1 will join the group.

“It’s super exciting to be here today and to launch it, it’s something really special for Australia, particularly on the back of how successful the Women’s T20 World Cup was, and hopefully we can replicate what Australia did there,” Finch said in a Cricket Australia (CA) release.
Australia were the winners of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and they will begin their title defence campaign at Sydney Cricket Ground against New Zealand, who were the finalists of 2021, on October 22.
Knowing What The Groups Look Like Nine Months Out Is Really Helpful – Aaron Finch
Meanwhile, Australia captain Aaron Finch has said that getting the information about groups nine months prior is helpful for the teams because they can do the detailed planning accordingly. He added that Australia are placed in a tough group and the team need to play really well to defend the title.
“Our planning was ultra-detailed last time and knowing what the groups look like nine months out is really helpful because it can help your level of detail in that planning phase more and more. It’s a tough group though, and when you throw in qualifiers like the West Indies and Sri Lanka, you’ve got to play really well to get out of that group stage,” he added.
