Shreyas Iyer says that he will have achieved fitness to return to the IPL 2021 in its second phase, in September-October in the UAE, however, he isn’t sure whether he would lead the Delhi Capitals again considering the success the side had had under Rishabh Pant so far.

Pant was given the captaincy reins for IPL 2021 after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament following a shoulder injury. The wicket-keeper led the side impressively to the top of the table before the season was suspended mid-way in early May.

Now, Shreyas Iyer, who captained the Capitals to its maiden final last season, is set to return for the UAE leg; but says that the owners will decide on his captaincy.

Nonetheless, he is happy that the team has done well so far under Pant – 6 wins in 8 matches – and wishes to win the trophy for the first time for Delhi.

“My shoulder… yes, I think the healing process is done. Now it’s the last stage of achieving strength and range. So that’s going to take about a month and the training is obviously going on. Other than that, I feel, I will be there in the IPL,” Shreyas Iyer told The Grade Cricketer’s YouTube channel.

“I don’t know about the captaincy, it’s in the hands of the owners. But the team has already been doing well and we are on top and that’s what really matters to me. My main aim and goal to lift the trophy which Delhi has never done before,” he added.
