IPL 2021: It's Very Important To Start On A High Note - Delhi Capitals Opener Shikhar Dhawan
Delhi Capitals’ (DC) opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan revealed that the team needs to pick up from where it left off when the second leg of the IPL 2021 begins in the UAE. The DC team is sitting on top of the table with six wins in eight matches and almost has one foot in the playoffs.
The squad has assembled in UAE, where the IPL will be held from September 19 – October 15. Speaking ahead of the tournament, Dhawan expressed his desire to start well when the games resume and ensure that the players bring their A-game right from the get-go.
“It’s great to be back. There’s a great environment within the team. All the boys are working very hard and I am looking forward to the IPL season. I am very excited to play the upcoming matches.”
“It’s very important to start on a high note. We need to do well from the first match itself and therefore we are working very hard for our first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. We have to bring our hard work into effect during matches and produce great results,” Dhawan stated to Delhi Capitals.
Shikhar Dhawan believes Shreyas Iyer’s return bolsters the squad
Indian middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer, sustained an injury during England’s tour of India earlier this year. He was subsequently ruled out of IPL but luckily for him, the event got postponed so he had enough time to recover and come back into the side. His presence will certainly boost DC’s chances, as per Dhawan.
“We were in a certain flow in the first half of the season and then that flow was broken once the tournament was suspended. So we have to rebuild our energy and get back on the flow we were in. The good thing is that our team is well balanced and Shreyas Iyer is back in the side as well, so our team is even stronger now,” he mentioned.
Shikhar Dhawan is the leading run-scorer in the 14th season of the IPL, having scored 380 runs in eight matches. He leads the orange cap race with only KL Rahul closing in. DC resumes their campaign on September 22 when they face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
