The BCCI and the IPL franchises are reportedly set to discuss foreign players not showing respect and commitment towards the auction process. The much-awaited meeting is due to take place in Mumbai on Wednesday (July 31).

While the main agenda of the meeting is the retention and right-to-match (RTM) option rules for the upcoming mega auction, the foreign players' lack of respect towards the auction will also be a major topic of discussion, according to Cricbuzz. In recent times, several overseas players have pulled out of the tournament after being bought by the franchises during the auction.

Some players who have withdrawn from the IPL in recent times are English duo Jason Roy and Alex Hales and Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga. As per the report, the players pulled out of the competition due to low bids during the auction. While the players have cited several reasons such as injury or fatigue for pulling out of the IPL, the franchises were left disappointed with their decisions.

IPL franchises seek action, truant overseas players:

The franchises now want the BCCI to come up with measures to ensure that such a situation does not arise in the future. Earlier the franchises had a one-on-one meeting with the BCCI CEO and during that interaction, they had sought action against truant players who pulled out of the IPL without any valid reasons. Some of the franchises have also asked for banning such unreliable players.

The franchises have stated that the players' actions have disrupted their planning. The franchises plan for the season before the auction and buy the players to bolster their squad. Even in IPL 2024, several teams were dealt a big blow during the playoffs when the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recalled players for bilateral international matches. Some of the big names who missed the playoffs were Jos Buttler and Phil Salt.

The report further stated that the franchises have also highlighted a pattern where some foreign players choose not to participate in the mega-auction and instead enter the mini-auction to secure higher bids. The franchises want the BCCI to take action on this issue as well.
