Jasprit Bumrah beats Rohit Sharma to win top ICC award after T20 World Cup heroics

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to bag the top prizes as he has now bagged another ICC award after his heroics in the recently-concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The right-arm pacer starred with the ball as India won the T20 World Cup after a gap of 17 long years. Jasprit Bumrah, who had missed the 2022 edition of the tournament due to an injury, delivered for his team throughout the competition. Not only did he pick up crucial breakthroughs throughout the competition but he was also economical with the ball.

He started the campaign with back-to-back Player of the Match awards against Ireland and Pakistan and did not look back. Overall, he picked 15 wickets at an average of 8.26 and a mind-boggling economy rate of 4.17. The heroics with the ball also helped him bag the prestigious Player of the Tournament award. He became only the second Indian after Virat Kohli to win the award.

Jasprit Bumrah named ICC Player of the Month:

Just over a week after winning the Player of the Tournament award at the T20 World Cup, Jasprit Bumrah has won the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for June. The star pacer edged out his India captain Rohit Sharma and Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the award.

"I am delighted to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June. It’s a special honour for me following a memorable few weeks spent in the USA and West Indies. We have had a lot to celebrate as a team, and I’m delighted to be able to add this personal accolade to the list.

"To perform as well as we did at the tournament and lift the trophy at the end is incredibly special, and I will carry those memories with me forever.

"I wish to congratulate my captain Rohit Sharma and Rahmanullah Gurbaz for their excellent performances in the same period, and I am humbled to have been chosen as the winner," said Jasprit Bumrah.

He has won the award for the very first time and has become the eighth Indian player to do it. The other Indian players to bag the Player of the Month award are - Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill (twice) and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
