Tension was clearly visible in the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) camp on the field during Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) chase when Jasprit Bumrah was left frustrated with unwanted captaincy calls from Hardik Pandya during the one-sided IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 16.
The match turned out to be another nightmare for the Mumbai Indians as they suffered their fourth straight defeat in the ongoing IPL 2026. Punjab Kings dominated the chase by reaching 196 in just 16.3 overs with seven wickets in hand, leaving MI completely outplayed in all departments.
Jasprit Bumrah shows frustration at Hardik Pandya’s calls during the MI vs PBKS game
After the Mumbai Indians’ crushing loss to the Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium, a video took social media by storm where India’s biggest match-winner Jasprit Bumrah and star all-rounder Hardik Pandya can be seen arguing with each other in the crunch moment over the field placements.
During Bumrah’s spell, when Shreyas Iyer was batting in full flow, Pandya was seen changing field placements and giving his instructions, but the move did not seem to go down well with Bumrah. At one point, Bumrah even had a heated on-field argument with Pandya over field placements, but eventually he had to surrender to the captain's decision.
Following the argument, the MI fast bowler’s body language looked visibly down, showing clear frustration with how things unfolded. His animated gestures suggested the tension between the two during the live match as the team continued to struggle in the tournament.

Hardik Pandya demands urgent review
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya was clearly upset after PBKS crushed the Mumbai Indians at home. The captain admitted that the team’s performance was confusing and far below expectations.
He made it clear that the team now needs a serious review to understand where things are going wrong. Pandya also hinted that they could take the big decisions and stressed that players must take responsibility for the poor results, as MI continue to struggle badly this season.
MI vs PBKS IPL 2026 Match Highlight
Speaking about the match, Quinton de Kock smashed a brilliant hundred, but it still was not enough as MI suffered its fourth painful defeat in the ongoing IPL 2026. Batting first at the Wankhede Stadium, the MI managed 195/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to De Kock’s outstanding unbeaten 112 off just 60 balls. He looked in full control and dominated the PBKS bowlers.
He also got excellent support from Naman Dhir, who also hit a brilliant fifty and later added some quick runs with captain Hardik Pandya. Arshdeep Singh stood out with three important wickets for PBKS.
But the chase was completely dominated by the PBKS. Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer played fearless cricket and took the game away from Mumbai. The duo added a massive 139 runs together and put MI bowlers under huge pressure.
Prabhsimran remained unbeaten on 80 off just 39 balls, while Iyer smashed 66 from 35 balls. Their attacking partnership helped Punjab Kings chase down the target easily. Allah Ghazanfar scalped two wickets for MI while Bumrah once again went wicketless.
