India's bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has overtaken Ravichandran Ashwin to become the No. 1 ranked player in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers. Bumrah achieved his feat after his exploits in the recently concluded Test series against Bangladesh.

Bumrah has reclaimed his position as the No. 1 bowler in ICC Test Rankings. He has reached the top spot for just the second time in his career. Previously, R Ashwin had dethroned him from the position but Bumrah has now claimed it back.

Jasprit Bumrah becomes No. 1 Test bowler in ICC Test Rankings

Jasprit Bumrah has 870 rating points now and is just one point ahead of his fellow India teammate R Ashwin who is placed on the second spot with 869 points. Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Kagiso Rabada complete the top five.

There are three Indian players in the top ten list of ICC Men's Rankings for bowlers. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja is in the sixth spot.

Bumrah was outstanding in the Kanpur Test match between India and Bangladesh where he picked up 6 wickets for just 67 runs across both innings. He provided the wickets at crucial times whenever his team wanted him to.

On a pitch that did not have much for the fast bowlers, Bumrah used all his skills and experience to return with insane figures. He finished with 3-50 in the first innings of the match and 3-17 in the second innings.

His ability to bowl with both the new ball and the old ball makes him such a lethal bowler in all the formats of the game. He also finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the series eith 11 wickets in 2 Tests at an outstanding average of 12.81.

Jasprit Bumrah is having the best time of his career as he is performing exceedingly well in all the formats. Before the Test series against Bangladesh, he played the T20 World Cup 2024 in June where he played a key role in India's title win. Bumrah finished as the Player of the Tournament.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh's offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz has also gained four spots in the rankings for being his country's highest wicket-taker of the series. Miraz picked up 9 wickets in 2 Tests at an average of 29.44.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli move up in the rankings

Not only the bowlers, Indian batters also made significant gains after the Test series against Bangladesh. Young opener Yashsavi Jaiswal, who struck twin fifties in the Kanpur Test, moved up two places to the third spot in ICC Men's Test Rankings for batters.

While Jaiswal is third, Joe Root is the No. 1 ranked batter in ICC Test Rankings and is followed by Kane Williamson at the second spot. Virat Kohli has also jumped six places to move to the sixth spot in the rankings. Kohli scored 47 and 29* across both the innings of Kanpur Test.
