Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah achieves a remarkable milestone in the ongoing IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (April 27). Jasprit Bumrah etched his name into the history book by dismissing Aiden Markram in the third over.

Hardik Pandya brought in Bumrah in the third over, and he found instant success. Bumrah delivered a well-executed back-of-a-length delivery on leg, which Aiden Markram flicked into the air, and the ball went straight into the hands of Naman Dhir at deep backward square.

Jasprit Bumrah becomes Mumbai Indians' all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL

Bumrah's arms went up in celebration as the Lucknow Super Giants opener walked back to the pavilion after scoring just 9 runs off 11 balls against the Mumbai Indians. Before falling to the Indian star, Markram hit two fours in Trent Boult's opening over at the Wankhede Stadium.

After taking this key wicket, Bumrah has now become the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians in IPL history, surpassing the legendary Lasith Malinga.

The Indian speedster is now leading the chart with 171* wickets in 139 matches for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, edging past Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga, who has taken 170 wickets in 122 matches while representing the franchise.

Harbhajan Singh (127 wickets in 136 matches), Mitchell McClenaghan (71 in 56 matches), Kieron Pollard (69 in 189 matches), and Hardik Pandya (65 wickets in 115 matches) follow on the elite list.

Why was Jasprit Bumrah left out of MI's XI vs LSG?

Earlier, Mumbai Indians dropped Bumrah from the playing XI for their IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants at home. Instead, they handed a debut to South African fast-bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch while leaving out their star pacer.

However, Bumrah was left out of the starting lineup, but the star pacer made a return as the Impact Player substitution during the second innings to bolster MI’s bowling attack as they are defending 215 runs against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium.

Chasing the target, LSG had a poor start, losing their opener Aiden Markram for just nine runs and then captain Rishabh Pant for just four, and MI took the upper hand early in their defense. Nicholas Pooran failed to continue his blistering form, falling to Will Jacks for just 27 runs.

Mumbai Indians set for fifth straight win in the IPL 2025

Mitchell Marsh made 34 runs off 24 balls before Trent Boult sent him back to the dugout. Ayush Badoni was looking good but could not handle Boult’s thunderbolts and was dismissed for 35 runs off 22 balls, as MI marched towards their fifth straight victory in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Now, LSG needs 76 runs in 30 balls with five wickets in hand against the MI. If Lucknow loses against Mumbai, it will severely dent their IPL 2025 playoff chances. On the other hand, the Hardik Pandya-led franchise is sitting on the fifth spot with 10 points, and a win over LSG will take their tally to 12 and will significantly boost their playoff chances.
