Jasprit Bumrah Yet to Claim a Wicket in West Indies’ Second Innings So Far
At the time of writing, the tourists were 271/4, with skipper Roston Chase (30) and Shai Hope (103*) at the crease. The Men in Blue will have to bat in the second innings as the visitors surpassed India’s lead.
Earlier in the match, the tourists were bowled out for 248 in their first innings. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, taking a five-wicket haul, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets.
Batting first, India declared at 518/5 following centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) and skipper Shubman Gill (129). Jomel Warrican took three wickets for the West Indies.
India enforced the follow-on and they have not batted again after enforcing it in the last 13 years. The previous instance was against England in November 2012.
We Thought the Wicket Was Going to Keep Deteriorating - Ryan ten Doeschate
Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate revealed that the possibility of enforcing the follow-on with a 270-run lead was discussed after Sunday’s play. He stated that the last two wickets in the West Indies' first innings took longer than expected.
“There was a discussion to bat. Obviously, those last two wickets took a little bit longer than we would have hoped for. It probably started going towards the fact where you do look to bat again, but we felt 275 was a good lead."
"We thought the wicket was going to keep deteriorating. We thought by ending the WI innings, the worst was over. But it just seems to have slowed down even more," the coach said (via NDTV).
