India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah is almost ready to return to action, but he will miss Mumbai Indians' next IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 4. Jasprit Bumrah is also doubtful for the Mumbai Indians’ next clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 7.
The star pacer has been in rehab since January 2025 due to a lower back injury that he sustained on the Australia tour. However, there is good news for the Mumbai Indians ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Massive update comes on Jasprit Bumrah's IPL 2025 return
As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Jasprit Bumrah is getting closer to returning to action. The report claimed that Bumrah has slowly increased his bowling at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is almost ready for a fitness test to return to action.
The Indian will soon get underway with the final fitness at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and once he gets the all-clear from the medical team, he can join the Mumbai Indians squad and will be ready to show the world his magic in the ongoing IPL 2025.
It is also being said that Bumrah is being extra careful with his recovery and wants to be fully fit before making a comeback with the MI. He’s keeping the upcoming five-match Test series in England, starting June 28, in mind and doesn’t want to take any risks with his fitness for the IPL 2025.
MI feels Jasprit Bumrah's absence in the IPL 2025
Meanwhile, the last update on Bumrah came on March 19, when MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene mentioned how tough it was to start the season without him. Back then, it was expected that Bumrah would miss the team’s early matches.
However, his comeback has been delayed now, keeping in mind India’s upcoming Test tour of England. Since making his IPL debut in 2013, Bumrah has only played for the Mumbai Indians, taking 165 wickets in 133 matches. The only season he missed before this was in 2023, also due to a back injury.
Bumrah picked up his latest injury on January 4, during the second day of the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Sydney. This setback ruled him out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which India won last month in Dubai. This is the first time Bumrah has faced a back issue since his surgery in March 2023.

Will BCCI allow Jasprit Bumrah to exhaust for MI ahead of the England tour?
Well, it will be interesting to see how Mumbai brings Bumrah back into the team once he is fit, especially since he doesn’t have any practice under his belt. On the other hand, the BCCI is focused on keeping Bumrah fully fit for the upcoming five-match Test series in England.
Notably, Mumbai Indians have played three matches so far in IPL 2025, winning one and losing two. In Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, Satyanarayana Raju, Vignesh Puthur, and Ashwani Kumar made their debuts for MI in the ongoing tournament.
Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar have led the bowling attack, while Hardik Pandya has supported as another pace option for the franchise so far.
