BCCI secretary Jay Shah became the youngest ICC Chairman after he won the elections unopposed. He was named as the next ICC Chairman on Tuesday and will start his tenure from December 1.
He became the fifth Indian after Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar to be elected for the much-coveted position.
Shah has been in cricket administration since 2009 previously serving as the ACC chief and was associated with the Gujarat Cricket Association. He is the son of Amit Shah, India's Minister of Home Affairs and thus had a lineage into politics as well.
Greg Barclay decided to not continue his stint for the third term. Once that was decided, it was very evident that Jay Shah would succeed him for the post.
As it turned out he won the elections unopposed and from being the BCCI Secretary he is now the ICC Chairman with a vision to change the game and enlarge its reach as well.
"I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council. I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalize cricket," Shah said in an ICC statement.
"We stand at a critical juncture where it is increasingly important to balance the coexistence of multiple formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and introduce our marquee events to new global markets. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before" he further said.
Meanwhile, former England cricketer David Lloyd, in response to a query from a random Twitter user has asked Shah to share the wealth as the ICC Chairman.
Shah has now limitless power to change the face of the game and the former England cricketer wants him to be generous and share the revenue with smaller cricket boards to develop the status of the game.

Countries like West Indies, and Zimbabwe have struggled with a lack of revenue in the past. Jason Holder has time and again spoken about the importance of revenue needed for Cricket West Indies to improve the quality of cricket in the country.
A few other boards too have expressed their interest in the revenue to be shared by the ICC for the greater good of the game.
Currently, the BCCI, the ECB, and Cricket Australia are among the richest cricket boars in the country and now Jay Shah as the ICC Chairman has the power to distribute the revenue to the needed countries as well.
After becoming the ICC Chairman, Shah has promised to work on women's cricket and differently-abled cricket along with starting a separate talent search program.
"I would also like to work towards setting up a separate program for talent search during my tenure, and I look forward to your support in this program," Shah said.
"While the T20 is a naturally exciting format, it is equally important that Test cricket remains a priority for everyone as it forms the bedrock of our game. We must see to it that cricketers are driven to longer format and our efforts will be channelized towards this goal" Shah said in a statement released by the BCCI.
Among a major problem for him now as the ICC Chairman will be to oversee if the Indian government allows the BCCI to send their team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
The BCCI has also started its search to replace him as the next Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
