Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has congratulated ace batter Virat Kohli on his 16th anniversary in international cricket. Jay Shah praised Virat Kohli for his legendary cricketing career as the former Indian skipper continues to contribute to the Indian national cricket team.

Virat Kohli was considered one of the brightest prospects in the nation after leading the team to victory in the 2008 U-19 World Cup. He made his international debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka on August 18, 2008. Since then, he has lived up to expectations and played many notable innings for India.

The Delhi batter has established himself as one of the greatest ever all-format players with his passion, consistency, and skill. Kohli has also made a significant impact as a captain across formats. The right-handed batter has shattered many records as both player and captain in international cricket.

A Truly Legendary Career - Jay Shah

Jay Shah took to social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) to congratulate Virat Kohli on his 16th anniversary in international cricket. Shah highlighted that Kohli has had a legendary career since his debut at 19.

“16 years ago today, a 19-year-old @imVkohli stepped onto the international stage for the first time, marking the beginning of what has become a truly legendary career. Congratulations to the King on completing 16 years in international cricket!” Jay Shah wrote on X.

The 35-year-old was last seen in action during the ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier this month. The veteran batter played a match-winning knock during the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. He was named "Player of the Match" for his impressive batting performance in the summit clash.

Virat Kohli Rested For Duleep Trophy 2024 Season

Virat Kohli is the second-leading run-scorer for India in international cricket. He has scored 26,942 runs, including 80 centuries and 140 fifties. Overall, he is behind Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), and Ricky Ponting (27,483). Kohli also holds the record for the most centuries (50) in ODIs.

Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not participate in the upcoming Duleep Trophy ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that resting these senior players is a precautionary measure ahead of the busy Test season, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

He will be next seen in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. The Rohit Sharma-led team will play the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, starting on September 19. The second and final test will be played at Green Park in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.

Virat Kohli has scored 437 runs in six Tests against Bangladesh at an average of 54.62 with two centuries. He needs 152 more runs to reach 9,000 runs in the longer format of the game.
