Saurashtra skipper Jaydev Unadkat shared a video of himself batting in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), cheekily implying that he can be considered for a spot in the national side as an all-rounder.

At the moment, the Indian team lacks a genuine pace-bowling all-rounder. The emergence of Hardik Pandya was expected to solve the problem but his frequent bouts with surgery have made the selectors quite impatient.

If Hardik is unable to contribute with the ball, his side in the place becomes questionable according to the experts. Therefore, the selectors have begun their search and expanded their horizons – an example being the inclusion of Venkatesh Iyer in India’s squad for the T20I series against New Zealand.

The experienced player, Unadkat, has thrown his hat into the mix rather indirectly. He shared a batting montage where he’s seen playing his best shots in the ongoing SMAT.

Unadkat has been on the scene for quite a while but the team management hasn’t turned to him yet. He made his debut for India against South Africa at the Centurion back in December 2010 but hasn’t played another Test ever since for the team.

The Saurashtra player has also taken part in white-ball matches for India and his last game for the Men in Blue was in March 2018 against Bangladesh at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
